We were honoured today (August 13) to be visited by Australian Jackaroo Aaron Wilson, who won his second successive singles gold medal during last week’s Commonwealth Games bowls competition in Birmingham, England.
Aaron, who lives nearby in Skye, but is leaving to take up a post at the Cabramatta club in Sydney later this month, asked for the opportunity to have a roll-up under the SkyeDome, to reacclimatise to Australian green speeds after competing on the 10-11 second greens at Royal Leamington Spa over the last two weeks.
The 30-year-old, who will be seeking a third victory in his hometown Bendigo in 2026, beat Ireland’s Gary Kelly 21-3 in the gold medal play-off. He was imperious throughout with only one of eight opponents reaching double figures on route to his triumph.
